We'll review your symptoms and relevant history, talk through whether uterine fibroid embolization may be a suitable option for you, explain broadly what the procedure involves and what the next steps would be — including any imaging or referrals that may be needed. This is a suitability and information discussion, not a diagnosis or a commitment to treatment.

The consultation is approximately 15–20 minutes by phone, at a scheduled time that suits you.

Not everyone with fibroids needs treatment. What matters most is how much your symptoms affect your day-to-day life. A helpful starting point is the fibroid quality-of-life (QOL) score — a short, self-administered questionnaire that measures the impact of your symptoms. We recommend completing it before your consultation; during the call we'll guide you through it and what your score means for your options. We're also developing an online tool so you'll be able to calculate it yourself.

You're welcome to see a gynaecologist directly. But if you'd first like to understand whether you may even be a candidate for UFE, a telephonic consult with someone familiar with the procedures may be cheaper and more convenient than an in-person specialist consultation — a quicker way to find out before committing the time and cost of an in-person appointment. What's different here is that our practitioner is affiliated with interventional radiologists, and so is familiar with the specific procedures and treatment options — like UFE — that this pathway involves. For a fibroid-related enquiry, that focused familiarity means the conversation can get straight to the questions that matter for your situation.

No — a prior diagnosis isn't required to have the consultation. That said, it's helpful if you've already had an ultrasound, as most patients have, since imaging gives us more to work with in assessing your suitability. If you have any recent scan results or reports, having them on hand for the call is recommended but not essential.
